Inspiration comes from strange places. Strange times. Strange people as well. A wise, big and red suitcase who's seen it all told us about each of these things. Her name is Shelby.
These are her songs.

Each of the three tracks on the EP were inspired by themes of transition; how it's dealt with by some, and how it isn't by others.

This is our last EP we're likely to record together in Hong Kong, but we believe it will stand as testament to the time that we loved and cherish so much together. Everyone we met on our journey together has been so supportive, helping us and our music grow into what you can hear on these few tracks.

This is certainly not our final chapter together as The Folk Ups, with new technology there's nothing you can't do with dedication and will. And as it happens, we have plenty of that.

We hope you enjoy Shelby, which would not have been possible without the fantastic help all of the incredibly talented musicians with whom we recorded, and the never ending support of our family, friends, and fans.

We were so grateful and immensely lucky to have Fok Yap come into the studio with his Cello to record his moving take on Lunar Lullaby. Our ideas were presented in forms that were far from standard, yet he was able to interpret them and come up with something far more profound than we had imagined.

The Lantau Singers, your calm in the thirty minutes we had to record the choir allowed us to immortalise the fantastic talent of you all. Thank you for selflessly giving up your time to practise, perform and record with us, we couldn't ask for a better choir.

Once again, thank you so much to Jordie Guzman and Studio B for working tirelessly in making these recordings capture the soul of the song. With our odd recording habits, things had to adapt, and just when it looked like things might not work out how we imagined, he always found a way.

No matter the occasion, in a haunted house, on a beach in stifling Hong Kong heat, and even in observation wheels, our amazing and talented friends Dika Rukma and Ali Adnan have both been there filming and shooting alongside us for the past two years. We can't thank them enough for the hard work and creativity they put into The Folk Ups.

Our family and friends, thank you for always believing in what we do, all the times that you've come to our gigs, helped us move increasing amounts of instruments and gear around Hong Kong, and in showing your never ending support.

To our fans, no matter where we are in times soon to come, we reach out with our music in the hope that we can share a connection of the passion, fun and love we put into our music. Thank you for coming to our gigs, and letting us be a part of your life.
